About the Midlands Centre

What is the Midlands Centre?

Keeping in touch with friends and professionals in television is becoming more important in these days of fragmentation. What better way to do so than by joining the Midland Centre of the Royal Television Society.

The Centre provides an ideal forum where members can discuss the current developments in their own fields, learn more about the work of others and discover the latest developments in technology and equipment. People of diverse interests and of all ages and experience are encouraged to join us.

Throughout the year, we hold a series of lectures, discussions, workshops and visits on a wide range of subjects, all relevant to television. They reflect the interests of the membership and include productions, technical, craft and topical general interest items. These meetings are always free at either BBC Birmingham at The Mailbox or other city centre venues.

The prestigious Dinner and Awards Presentation is held in October. The Centre presents 13 awards which cover all the main categories of television production. The Centre also presents its highly regarded Baird Medal to an individual who has shown an outstanding contribution to television in the Midlands area.

In 2009, the RTS Midlands centre held its first RTS Futures event How to Pitch aimed at young people getting into television and covered the highs and lows of pitching. The event was a great success and the Midland centre is planning more events, click here for more about RTS Futures.  For information about RTS Futures in the Midlands please contact Mars Elkins.

The Midlands Centre has recently been extended to cover more Eastern counties, adding Nottinghamshireshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire to the existing Derbyshire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands and Worcestershire.

So, if you have an interest in television can you afford not to be a member?
