Could you mentor one of our Bursary Scholars?

Each year the RTS awards up to 40 Scholars studying a range of different subjects, all with the desire to work in television and related media industries come graduation. We aim to help talented young people from lower income households to do well at university and get their foot on the first rung of the career ladder.

As part of the bursary, in their second or third year we try to match the student with a mentor who has experience relevant to the role they aspire to. We have had some very talented people volunteer as mentors for our first cohort of students, and are now looking to expand the pool.

The students really value their mentors – as one says: 'The mentor scheme is one of the best bits of the RTS Bursary and is one of the main reasons I applied in the first place. The bursary is lovely but it is the opportunities and connections you make, that makes it worthwhile.'

While we do need committed mentors, the time required is not excessive – we ask for a commitment to catch up with them once a quarter and exchange emails between times as needed over a 12 month period as they transition from university to find work. More details of the scheme can be found here.
