David Tennant and Olivia Colman will reprise their roles as DI Alec Hardy and DS Ellie Miller for the third and final series of Broadchurch.

The pair will be joined by new cast members Sarah Parish (Atlantis), Charlie Higson (The Fast Show) Georgina Campbell (Murdered By My Boyfriend), Julie Hesmondhalgh (Coronation Street) and Mark Bazeley (Home Fires).

Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan will also return as Beth and Mark Latimer alongside Arthur Darvill as vicar Paul Coates, Carolyn Pickles as newspaper editor Maggie Radcliffe and Adam Wilson as Ellie’s son Tom.

Writer Chris Chibnall has worked closely with Dorset-based organisations over the past year to develop the storyline for the series, which explores the consequences of a serious sexual assault in the area. It will look at the emotional cost to those affected by the assault, and the irreparable damage to friendships and relationships.

Broadchurch is as ever stylishly written, provocative and thought provoking,” said Victoria Fea, ITV’s Controller of Drama.  “We’re pleased with the direction Chris and Jane have taken this series and the extraordinary cast they’ve assembled.”

Chibnall added: “We have one last story to tell, featuring both familiar faces and new characters. I hope it’s a compelling and emotional farewell to a world and show that means so much to me.”

Filming will commence in Bridport, West Bay and Clevedon this summer.
