The countdown is on to the region's biggest night celebrating the success of TV after the announcement of the Royal Television Society North West nominations.

More than 200 people packed in to The Compass Theater at The Lowry to watch BBC presenters Lauren Layfield and Karim Zeroual reveal the shortlist.

After another year of incredible television created, filmed and produced here in the North West there are some stand-out nominations.

Red Productions scooped 10 nominations including Sarah Lancashire for 'Happy Valley', Lesley Sharp for 'Scott & Bailey' and Kascion Franklin for 'Danny & The Human Zoo'.

LA Productions received a clutch of nominations for the drama 'Reg', Blakeway North was recognised for '1966: A Nation Remembers' and the 'My Life' series by Nine Lives Media was nominated again.

In the Regional News categories the coverage of the Hillsborough Inquests dominates with coverage by BBC North West and ITV Granada recognised. While, for the first time, That's Lancashire is nominated in Best Regional Story.

Children's is dominated by entries from CBBC, CBeebies and CITV with 'Twirlywoos' from Mackinnon and Saunders nominated in three different categories.

Coronation Street's Les Dennis will host the Awards on Saturday 12th November at The Hilton Hotel in Manchester.
