Event Summary

Technical Presentation

MC Patel, Business Development Director at Bright Systems, discussed the technology barrieres that must be overcome in order to create a digital postproduction infrastructure capable of delivering an efficient and predictable data-centric workflow. He also discussed how to achieve tight integration between all processes commonly used in postproductions from ingest to delivery, using high-bandwidth file servers that provide operators with simultaneous access to digital medial.

The digital infrastructure and file system are probably the most important components of a data centric workflow if flexibility, reliability, security, speed and media sharing accross all networks are to be achieved. Attempts to build home-grown systems using IT components and IT networks adapted for post production are simply not up to the job - at best providing a heavy compromise to the orginal requirements and a slow dysfunctional workflow fraught with problems. True media sharing and real-time access to files can only be achieved using an infrastrucure designed purely for the high data volumes that need to be moved, shared and work on in even the smallest post production project.

Bright Systems' BrightDrive - a shareable medial store installed at over 75 of the world's leading post production facilities, will be used to illustrate how to create a cost-effective, reliable and fast data-centric workflow with media sharing available to all operators across all systems.
