Breaking Into Media

RTS East and BBC Academy host student training sessions

Run by the BBC Academy, the event aimed to give the students an insight into working in the broadcasting industry.

The morning session on mobile journalism, taken by MoJo guru Marc Settle, gave them the skills to go out into the city and shoot and edit a film entirely on their phones. Grabbing lunch on the go, the completed films were reviewed and a Best Film award given.

Breaking into Media

This year we are pleased to announce that our keynote speaker will be esteemed television director, Toby Haynes. Toby has directed many BBC shows such as Doctor Who, Sherlock and Being Human. He will take part in a Q&A, discuss his career and screen one of his episodes from Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell.  You can find out more about his career here

'Break into Media' with RTS Devon and Cornwall

A panel, drawn from local employers BBC South West, Twofour, Denhams, Silverstream and Elixel, and also including freelance photographer Richard Lappas, offered tips on how to kick-start a media career. There was also a chance for students to talk informally with the professionals to find out more about work experience opportunities and get advice on preparing for interviews.
