Two critically acclaimed American TV shows, Search Party and Our Flag Means Death, are heading to BBC iPlayer.

Search Party

A vigorous satire of millennial culture, the dark comedy Search Party follows Dory (Ali Shawkat, Arrested Development), a twenty-something assistant to a rich housewife who becomes obsessed with the case of her missing college acquaintance, Chantal.

Making it her personal mission to track down Chantal, Dory recruits her group of bratty New Yorker friends to join her investigation, including narcissist Elliott (John Early), bubbly actress Portia (Meredith Hagner), and sheltered hipster Drew (John Reynolds). Across five seasons, the gang are caught up in a semi-accidental murder, an absurd cover-up, and a sensational trial, as well as their own kidnapping plot.

Stellar guest stars include Susan Sarandon, Busy Phillips, Ann Dowd, Griddin Dunne and Lillias White, as well as a cameo from Goosebumps creator R.L. Stine.

Our Flag Means Death

Created by David Jenkins and executive produced by Taika Waititi, the pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death is loosely based on the true adventures of the 18th-century wannabe pirate Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby, Flight of the Conchords).

The series joins a crew of shipmates as they attempt to survive life on the high seas, while keeping their ship together. Having traded his charmed life as a gentleman to become a swashbuckling buccaneer, Stede becomes captain of the pirate ship Revenge. As he struggles to earn the respect of his potentially mutinous crew, Stede’s experiences a change in fortune after a chance encounter with history’s greatest pirate, the infamous Captain Blackbeard (Taiki Waititi).

The stacked ensemble cast includes Nathan Foad, Samson Kayo, Vico Oritz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matt Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, Guz Khan, Daid Fane, Rory Kinnear, Samba Schutte, Natt Faxon, and SNL legends Fred Armisen and Leslie Jones.

Sue Deeks, Head of Programme Acquisition says: "Search Party is a deliciously dark and quirky comedy thriller; Our Flag Means Death is a wonderfully rich and warm-hearted period comedy. We are truly delighted that these two critically acclaimed series will be joining our Channels and iPlayer line-up."

Search Party and Our Flag Means Death will land on BBC iPlayer in early 2023.
