Candice Carty-Williams' debut TV series, Champion, is coming soon to BBC One.

Carty-Williams, the bestselling author of Queenie and People Person, has penned an eight-part love letter to Black British music set in south London, and the BBC has released some first look images of the stars.

Top Boys' Malcolm Kamulete will lead as Bosco Champion, a rap sensation who comes home from prison ready to dominate the music industry.

Starring opposite Kamulete is Déja J Bowens as Bosco's sister Vita, a musical talent in her own right whose discovery by Bosco's rival sets the Champion siblings against one another and tears the family apart.

Nadine Marshall (Sherwood) and Ray Fearon (His Dark Materials) appear as Bosco and Vita’s parents Aria and Beres Champion, with Jo Martin (Doctor Who) as Bosco’s manager Dawn.

Joining them are Kerim Hassan (Once Upon a Time in London), Adeyinka Akinrinade (Everything I Know About Love), Tom Forbes (Wolf Hall), Genesis Lynea (Shadow and Bone), Karl Collins (Attack The Block), Francis Lovehall (Small Axe), Corey Weekes (Coronation Street) and Rachel Adedeji (Dreaming Whilst Black).

Beyond all the drama, Champion will also celebrate the real sound of the culture, featuring original music written and produced by some of the country's leading musicians. As well as playing Vita's best friend Honey, singer/songwriter Ray BLK serves as music executive alongside grime pioneer Ghetts.

Carty-Williams said: "Three years after I dreamt up Bosco and Vita Champion, this brother and sister duo, their family, their friends and their enemies, are about to hit screens across the globe, with a backdrop of all original music.

"Seeing the cast bring these songs and characters to life and make them their own has been thrilling, emotional and satisfying. I can’t wait for viewers to meet the Champions and fall in love with them like I have."

Writing Champion alongside Carty-Williams were Ameir Brown, Isis Davis, Emma Dennis-Edwards and Edem Wornoo.

The director of the first block is John Ogunmuyiwa, with Adeyemi Michael, Christiana Ebohon-Green and Caleb Femi directing further episodes.

Champion will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK and, outside of the UK and Ireland, on Netflix across the world.
