The newly released Bridgerton series three trailer uncovers some highly anticipated plot points, including a first look at the friends-to-lovers’ romance, nicknamed ‘Polin’ by fans.

Each series of Bridgerton has so far focused on a different sibling of the Bridgerton family and their search for love.

In series three, it is Colin Bridgerton’s (Luke Newton, The Lodge) turn, and his perfect match might just be his long-time friend Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan, Derry Girls) who, unbeknownst to Colin, has been holding a candle for him for years.

The end of series two saw Penelope and her best friend Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie, Line of Duty) having a fall out, after Eloise discovered Penelope is the elusive Lady Whistledown - a Gossip Girl style columnist who reveals all ‘the ton’s’ darkest and most scandalous secrets. In turn, Penelope discovered some bad news of her own, as she overheard Colin saying that he would never court her.

The new trailer reveals how Penelope and Colin get their friendship back on track, with Penelope deciding that she must end this social season with a husband, or else risk never gaining independence from her overbearing mother and two sisters. When her flirtations are largely unsuccessful, Colin offers her a helping hand in boosting her confidence.

There’s a glimpse of Hannah Dodd (Enola Holmes 2) in her new role as Francesca Bridgerton, after she took over the role from Ruby Stokes (Lockwood & Co.). There is also a hint at a possible friendship between bully Cressida Cowper (Jessica Madsen, Leatherface) and Eloise. Other returning cast include stars of series two Simone Ashley (Sex Education) and Jonathan Bailey (Crashing), with a notable absence from series one lead Phoebe Dynevor (Waterloo Road), who will not be returning to the series.

The first four episodes of Bridgerton series three will be released on Netflix on 16 May 2024, with part two following on 13 June.
