In a new ITV2 reality gameshow Bromans, eight 21st century guys will be transported back to the Roman Empire to see if they can survive as gladiators.

Cameras will follow eight modern day couples as they're transported to a world where they'll live and fight like the Romans did 2000 years ago.

The boys will endure a gruelling training regime, overseen by the 'Doctore' (David McIntosh), to prepare for gladiatorial combat in front of a baying crowd in the colosseum. Their girlfriends will come along too, helping them to train, as well as immersing themselves in ancient Roman lifestyle, trying everything from wine making to sculpting.

The very best gladiators will make it through to the Emperor's Games where one of them will emerge victorious and take home £10,000.

Siobhan Greene, ITV’s Head of Entertainment Commissioning said: “Bromans takes modern day lads and their girlfriends back in time to live like gladiators in Ancient Rome. We promise you a reality series that looks like no other - and with such original content I can't wait for ITV2 viewers to watch open mouthed at their funny sexy and super competitive antics.”

Ben Kelly, Executive Producer for Electric Ray added: “The Romans gave us roads, viaducts and basic sanitation but Bromans may prove to be their greatest legacy. Over 8 weeks our couples will train, live and carpe diem together, all the while battling to triumph at the Emperor’s Games. It is ancient Rome like you’ve never seen it before."

Bromans will be shown on ITV2 later this year.

ITV2 also announced that Release the Hounds will return for a fourth series. Radio 1 DJ Matt Edmondson (BBC Radio 1) will replace Reggie Yates as the host of the show, which will see contestants left in a remote dark forest at nightfall, where they will have to complete horror mental and physical tasks. The fourth series, Release the Hounds: Famous & Freaked, will see celebrities compete to win a large cash prize - if they can escape the hounds!
