TV industry stars of the future honoured at

2024 RTS Scotland Student Awards

 

The finest of student TV production in Scotland was honoured at an awards ceremony in Glasgow last night, as the Royal Television Society’s Scotland Centre announced the winners of its Student Awards for 2024.

Hosted by STV’s entertainment reporter Laura Boyd, the event celebrates the best audiovisual work from undergraduate students from universities and colleges across the country.

Students from the University of Stirling and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland picked up three awards each at the event, which took place at Glasgow’s St Luke’s. Other winners on the night were from the University of the West of Scotland, Edinburgh College of Art and Screen Academy Scotland (Edinburgh’s Napier University).

RTS Scotland received entries from universities and colleges across Scotland, and recognised the best Animation, Entertainment and Comedy, Drama, Journalism and Factual films produced by students in 2023. It also honoured talented filmmakers in five craft categories: Camerawork, Editing, Production Design, Sound and Writing.

All the nominated films and highlights from this year’s ceremony will be available for viewers across the UK to watch on streaming service, STV Player.

 

Stephen O’Donnell, Chair of RTS Scotland, said:

“Once again, Scotland’s students have set a very high bar, with a fantastic range of high quality, entertaining, thought-provoking and exceptional entries. I’d like to offer congratulations to all those nominated and to our deserving winners. The future of our industry appears to be in very good hands!”

 

Host Laura Boyd said:

“This is my fourth year hosting the RTS Scotland Student Awards and I can genuinely say it is one of my favourite events of the year. It’s a joy to host and I’m thrilled to be part of the students’ much-deserved celebrations.”

 

Gail English, Chair of RTS Scotland Student Awards, said:

“The standard of entries this year was incredibly high and each nominee should be so proud of the fantastic pieces of work they’ve produced.  The TV industry is crying out for new talent and the RTS Student Awards presents opportunities for talented students to share their work and meet with industry professionals – and this year’s showcase shows there is no shortage of talent in Scotland.”
