The North East and the Border is home to high achieving producers who are not always making programmes for broadcast.  The RTS wants to recognise the wide range of productions made here for specific target audiences e.g. private or public sector clients, communities or educational groups.

The Judges said:

The BBC Bitesize entry from Arcus Animation Studios was a series of eight educational animations, aimed at children aged 7-11. The judges admired the quality of the animation, which they felt held the imagination and was well suited to their target audience.  They were nicely paced, and one judge said that even his 6-year old son would find them fascinating.

Colin Prior Photography featured the award-winning landscape photographer through some of his favourite locations while he passed on tips to encourage others to achieve similar results.  One judge was impressed by the way the film makers managed to replicate Colin’s stills photos in real life out in the field.

Overall the submissions were varied, but the judges unanimously agreed that A Stitch in Time by Topher McGrillis stood out for many reasons.  It was an innovative idea, following a costume backwards (literally) from stage appearance back to the dyeing of the original cloth, and all the processes in between.  It was beautifully shot, “oozed imagination”; was wonderfully atmospheric, and generally agreed that it would stand up to a broadcast or cinema release.  This was particularly so in the light of its very modest budget just £5k.  The clear winner of the non-broadcast factual – is A Stitch in Time.
