Channel 4 and Masterpiece PBS have released different trailers for upcoming romantic drama Alice & Jack, starring Andrea Riseborough (The Death of Stalin) and Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina).

Alice and Jack feel a connection the moment they meet. Throughout the years, the spark never goes out, even as they start to see other people. In both trailers, Jack is seen reuniting with Alice, shortly before holding up a hand with a wedding ring.

“What percentage of the days since I’ve known you have you thought about her?” Jack’s wife – played by Aisling Bea (Living with Yourself) – asks him.

Separately, whilst sat on a hillside, Alice tells Jack: “If I could be with anyone in the world, it would be with you.”

Elsewhere in the PBS Masterpiece trailer, however, a teary Alice insists that she’s moved on. Put together, the drama shows love at its best and worst, its messiest and truest.

“The only work I’ve wanted to watch and do since the pandemic is work about connection and love, and work with a sense of humour,” said Gleeson. “Alice and Jack keep coming back to each other because they can’t help themselves – they find in each other something that they don’t have on their own.”

Riseborough added: “This story is for anyone who could or couldn’t make the sacrifice that love demanded, for anyone who battles and accepts the one who makes their soul soar, for anyone who longs to feel, who has felt, and who feels the tingling anticipation of love’s joy.”

The show is created and written by Victor Levin (Mad Men), with Juho Kuosmanen (Compartment No. 6) serving as lead director. Hong Khaou (Lilting) is the director for the series’s second block. Also in the supporting cast are Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education) and Sunil Patel (This Time with Alan Partridge).
