Sky has announced a new mass-participation photography series from Rankin to mark the launch of Sky Arts as a free-to-air channel.

Rankin’s 2020 challenges the nation’s best amateur and professional photographers with the documentation of 2020.

Photographers must submit a photo that represents their year by posting on Instagram using the handle @2020rankin, with the hashtag #2020rankin and the category they are entering in the description.

The categories include Family, Fun, Self, Beauty, Empathy and Nature.

There will be six episodes, one for each of the six categories, whereby Rankin will choose the best submissions with the help of celebrity guests.

Rankin will also talk us through the taking of his own photo, offering expert guidance on the use of affordable and accessible equipment including smartphones and consumer-grade SLRs.

Rankin said: “Photography is my life and passion and I truly believe it has the power to reveal and connect. Now we all have cameras in our pockets, I think it’s time to use them.

Rankin’s 2020 is an open call to anybody who thinks they can take a great picture. Together we can document this crazy year and make something positive out of it.”

The project is now open for submissions and the deadline is the 23rd August 2020.

Rankin’s 2020 will air on Sky Arts this September and will also be made available on NOW TV.
