The BBC has acquired Scandinavian crime dramas End of Summer and Jana – Marked for Life for iPlayer.

End of Summer stars Julia Ragnarsson, who Swedish thriller fans may recognise from The Bridge. The series begins in 1984, on the disappearance of a five-year-old boy named Billy that devastates his family.

20 years later, a chance meeting between Billy’s sister Vera (Ragnarsson) and a strangely familiar man (Erik Enge, The Sandhamn Murders), leads her to question the truth surrounding the case.

Madeleine Martin leads Jana – Marked for Life as the eponymous recently appointed public prosecutor. When Jana goes to investigate a double murder case she finds a scar left on the victim’s body, which she recognises from the nape of her own neck. Jana realises this string of murders may relate to her own poorly-remembered childhood.

Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, says: “End of Summer is a complex and absorbing mystery drama in a beautiful setting. Jana – Marked for Life is an intriguing and suspenseful thriller. We are so pleased to be adding these two compelling series to our rich catalogue of Nordic noir.”
