RTS Young Technologist of the Year 2023

RTS Young Technologist of the Year Award 2023

The deadline for entries to the RTS Young Technologist of the Year Award 2023 has been extended until Monday 5 June.

Are you a dedicated early career technologist or engineer working in the broadcast or related industries? Or do you have someone like that working for you? Then this is the Award to enter.

Applicants for the RTS Young Technologist Award can be from the very many areas of the TV and related industries: broadcasters, production companies, facilities houses, hardware and software suppliers to the industry, telecommunications suppliers of television capacity services, and recognised research institutions which are contributing in a demonstrable way to content creation, management and delivery in the UK.

The initial application and selection of finalists is online; the finalists will be interviewed by a panel of industry experts across the range of content creation, management and delivery. At this interview stage the candidates should aim to express themselves with insight and clarity.

Requirement overview

Initially the judges will be looking for an application that demonstrates that the applicant:

  • has already made an impact in their field
  • understands the ever-changing role of technology in television and related fields
  • proposes to share this enhanced understanding with others, both within the RTS and beyond

The award-winner will be asked to write a short report/article, or give a presentation, within six months, setting out how they have furthered the purpose of the award, which is to advance education in the science, practice, technology or art of television or its allied fields.

The prize

The prize is a full conference place in Amsterdam at IBC in September, together with travel and accommodation. The conference focuses on the latest technical information and market/economic analyses, dissecting the changes in content creation, management and delivery. The runner-up will receive the Coffey Award for Excellence in Technology.

Background

The Young Technologist Award was established by the Royal Television Society with funds received from the family of A.M. Beresford-Cooke, who was a distinguished engineer who contributed much to the development of British broadcasting technology through his work on towers and masts for VHF and UHF transmission.
