Tom Hollander and Niamh Algar to star in new thriller from the creator of Luther

Iris is another thriller from Neil Cross, who created the gritty, London-set Luther, starring Idris Elba as the titular maverick detective. The series won the Drama Series award at the RTS Programme Awards in 2012, and Elba the Actor – Male award in 2014.

This time around, Cross is setting his story in sunny Sardinia. A genius and drifter called Iris Nixon (Algar), as enigmatic as she sounds, flags harmful content on social media for a living. But she lives for puzzles.

Emmy winner Jennifer Coolidge is back as the rich and volatile Tanya, visiting The White Lotus Sicily for another "memorable time" with her now husband Greg (Jon Gries). Although judging by the trailer she is suspicious that Greg might be cheating on her.

Joining her are a new bunch of pesky, privileged vacationers, including Aubrey Plaza and Will Sharpe's married couple Harper and Ethan Spiller, who are double dating with Daphne (Meghann Fahy) and Cameron Babcock (Theo James), and the Di Grasso family made up of F. Murray Abraham, Michael Imperioli and Adam DiMarco.

The animation will be hand-drawn in full colour and will take audiences of all ages on a heartfelt journey as the boy’s unlikely friends join him on his search for home.

Tom Hollander will star as ‘the mole’, Idris Elba as ‘the fox’, Gabriel Byrne as ‘the horse’ and newcomer Jude Coward Nicoll as ‘the boy’.

On adapting his book for the screen, creator Charlie Mackesy said: “The journey of making the film of The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse with my ridiculously talented and kind animation team has been a magical one.
